Field visits with NCC

As the summer holiday set in for most, we took the opportunity to learn more about the neighbourhoods where we will be doing this research. NCC, who runs the Baboon Programme for the City of Cape Town, kindly agreed to let us tag along with their field managers to get a better idea of where baboons typically move and what the rangers usually do about it. Knowing which streets and areas see baboons more or less often will help us design a study where we reach a cross section of residents. We want to hear both from people who encounter baboons often, and those who rarely do so. Knowing the areas better thereby helps us prepare for the actual data collection, and is useful later on when we analyse the data and try to understand how people’s experiences and views differ. So far we have visited Murdock Valley, Simon’s Town, Constantia, Welcome Glen and Da Gama Park. Up next are Ocean View, Capri, Zwaanswyk and Tokai!
