Rainy days and media attention

Data collection is progressing well, by now we have over 250 responses to the survey and have expanded from Ocean View and Capri to Da Gama Park, Simon’s Town, Murdock Valley, Tokai and Zwaanswyk. As winter is setting in, heavy rain has forced us to stay home on some days which is causing some delays. If you have received a note that we will come back to you on a certain date, please don’t wait home for us if it is pouring down that day. We will return to you once the weather clears, and if you prefer to get a more specific time, please reach out to us as instructed on the slip note.

In other (literal) news, our survey has been reported on in the Constantiaberg Bulletin as well as CapeTalk radio. The Bulletin talked to both Johan and some of our advisory board members, read more about it here: www.constantiabergbulletin.co.za/news/researchers-to-survey-publics-views-on-baboons

The segment on CapeTalk did not go into as much depth, but can be listened to here:

Appearing in the media during an ongoing study can be tricky for researchers, since we don’t want to influence the outcomes or answers people give. In this case, we decided that it was important to let more members of the public know about the survey, since it relies on residents being willing to open their doors when we come knocking.
